ERA Riverfront Plans Win Top Honors
Two recent ERA planning projects have won top national awards for regional and urban design.
The Vision Plan for Pittsburgh's Riverfronts, prepared under the leadership of Chan Krieger and Associates of Cambridge for our Pittsburgh-based client, the Riverlife Task Force, won the AIA Honor Award, the profession's highest recognition of excellence in design. The AIA called the plan "a compelling and exceptionally well-communicated vision for the rebirth of Pittsburgh's riverfront." The Riverlife Task Force is now actively engaged in the early stages of plan implementation. ERA is continuing to assist Riverlife in documenting the economic aspects of this important regional initiative. On the web: http://www.pittsburghriverlife.org

In Houston, the recent release of the Buffalo Bayou and Beyond Master Plan has garnered our client, the Buffalo Bayou Partnership, and our team leader the Thompson Design Group the 2002 Excellence on the Waterfront award from the Waterfront Center. The plan offers a dramatic new vision of this 10-mile corridor extending from Houston's Memorial Park to the Port of Houston's Turning Basin. The plan document is available at http://www.buffalobayou.org

In both plans, ERA's role focused on defining the regional economic context of the riverfronts, identifying supportable short- and long-term development potentials for a range of land uses, estimating the likely economic and fiscal impacts of redevelopment, and crafting approaches to financing the required public investment.
