ERA Studies Spaceport of the future for NASA

ERA,along with ZHA, is currently on a long term assignment with NASA, the US Air Force 45th Space Wing, and the Florida Spaceport Authority to master plan the future development of Cape Canaveral into the world's premier spaceport. ERA's multi-phase assignment encompasses a variety of studies including:

    * Analysis of the Market for Space Tourism over the next 50 years
    * Forecast of Tourism to Central Florida and the Space Coast
    * Review of Worldwide Spaceports and Space Technology
    * Review of the Market for Commercial Satellite Launches
    * Spaceport Business Model development
    * Spaceport Launch Demand and Launch Facilities Requirements Model
    * Demand Analysis and Physical Planning Requirements of Spaceport Visitor Attractions
    * Demand Analysis and Physical Planning Requirements of Spaceport Hospitality and Conference Center Facilities
    * Demand Analysis and Physical Planning Requirements for Spaceport Educational Facilities

While resembling in some respects an Airport master plan and study, the Cape Canaveral Spaceport has unique characteristics and challenges. While the overall site includes some 157,000 acres, 55,000 acres consist of water and wetlands. Of the remaining land, substantial areas are reserved for conservation and wildlife or set aside for blast zones surrounding key launch pads. The net developable acreage must be carefully planned to provide the optimal operating conditions for the Spaceport.

ERA considered key demand factors over 25 and 50 year planning horizons to ensure a demand-driven master plan. Many of the markets, for example Space Tourism, are barely in their infancy, thus presenting analytical challenges relative to the sorts of technologies which may support such markets.
